Phase III Update

The planning continues for our Veteran’s parkway facility but we are still a long way off. At this current time and for sure for the next several months we are in the design phase. The architects have blocked the facility in sections and we are simply talking through and planning each section. We have worked through thoughts and plans for the administration area first (the least important) and will be next working on the Children’s/Students areas and the Worship venues (the most important). We’d love your input as we go along, so send us your thoughts!

Phase III Update

Design Phase Has Begun! While the completion of a new facility is far off, the design phase of this project has begun. Recently, our staff and leaders have had initial meetings with our selected builder, Shramm Construction, and it’s architect. After extensive research and the experience of two building projects under our belt, the decision was made to go the Design/Build route. This means that the design, project management and project construction of this facility will all be done by our friends at Shramm. If you have been at Westbrook for several years you might remember that Shramm Construction built the addition onto our Kingdom Avenue wing several years ago. After an extensive Request for Proposal (RFP) process, it was clear that not only was the Shramm company the highest qualified but they also seemed to work with Westbrook the most as it pertained to flexibility of schedule and price. The projected construction budget is $6,250,000 with an estimated project budget of $7,500,000. Our plan is to construct a 45,000-48,000 s/f facility and this anticipated price divides out to be roughly $165.00 per square foot. If you know much about construction and pricing, that is very good for new construction. Now, several issues are high on our prayer list and we certainly ask you to pray with us as well. First of all, we are progressing very carefully in light of the current economic situation that our country is in; even still, we are seeking God and His direction, timing and leadership at every step. Please pray with us that God would not only make clear His will for this facility, but also that He might provide the finances that allow for this facility to be built while at the same time allowing us to do significant ministry that the building will allow. Secondly, a piece of this financial puzzle is the sale of our current Lily Cache facility. While the facility is NOT currently on the real estate market, plans are in the works to put that piece into motion. If you drive into Westbrook in the months to come and see a For Sale sign in our lot…we’re not going out of business – we’re just prepping for our new facility and for the hundreds, even thousands, of new souls that can be reached for Christ. In April, several of the staff from Westbrook attended and spoke at a church planting conference called the “Exponential Conference”, which is the largest conference on church planting in the U.S. We thought it
was interesting that for each main speakerâ€™s session (there were two main speakers, one from the United States and one from another country), they were acknowledging that there are amazing church planting movements going on in Korea, India, and other places and that we should learn from them! I was impressed by that. Several of the speakers emphasized fasting and prayer as an essential ingredient to starting a successful church. Francis Chan, who spoke at the end, posed the question: “What would the church look like if we followed the pattern found in the book of Acts?” While that was an intriguing question it is also a motivating thought that we at Westbrook need to keep at the forefront of our dreams. As the design phase of our new Ministry Center facility continues, I want to ask you to make this process and the eventual building process a matter of your daily prayers. Simply ask the Lord to give the leaders of your church wisdom and insight as we seek to expand His kingdom. May this new facility aid us in BEING the church that Jesus died for. Now is the Time

What is the ‘Now is the Time’ campaign?
Now is the Time is a stewardship campaign and leadership challenge to help follow God’s leading in the vision for Westbrook Christian Church. It’s a way to make the spiritual and financial resources match our growing needs. As we continue to reach more people it is very evident that we need to provide more space for more ministry. This initial phase will help provide the funds necessary to purchase the 14.3 acre parcel of land that we have under contract.

Why is now the time?
In short, we believe God has spoken. It seems clear that now is the time, based upon our search, our prayers, our patience. Notwithstanding, land in our area is at a premium as well. We are sensing the need to move forward with this project so that we can provide more ministry space in this wonderful community to preach the message of Christ and His love.

Can we afford to do this?
With God’s help YES we can. In our strength, no we cannot? That’s why all through this process you will be asked to seek God for your part of His plan. Once you hear from Him, we challenge you to be faithful to obey Him.

How will the money for the current campaign be raised?
The funds will be commitment pledges by our Westbrook family members during our Now is the Time capital stewardship campaign, October 29 – November 19.

How will the commitments to this campaign be made?
Commitments will be made either by giving weekly, monthly or annually over a three year period. Commitment cards will be signed at the Leadership Commitment Event on November 9th and the Celebration Service on Sunday, November 19th. Some may also be led to give non-cash gifts such as real estate and jewelry, or like items.

When are we going to build a facility on this land?
As is the purchase of property, the timing of building will be firmly in the Lord’s hands. However, growth projections indicate that based upon the purchase of the property we could possibly be ready to build a facility on this parcel in 3-4 years.

Will what I commit be made public?
No.

What if I need to change my commitment at a later date?
Then you may change it. You may either increase or decrease your commitment at any time as the Lord leads you.

How much land are we purchasing?
Westbrook is purchasing 14.3 acres on Veterans Parkway just east and south of our current Lily Cache Ministry Center. From the Lily Cache and Veterans Parkway intersection, the property is located just to the south of this intersection on the west side of the road. The Tellabs facility is across the street.

Is this enough land for our growing church?
It seems very clear that this is the parcel that the Lord has lead us to. While it might seem better for us to have many more acres, we feel confident that the Lord will always use us to fulfill our vision over the next many years on this sight.

What if we wait to find a larger parcel of land?
While we believe that the Lord is leading us, we also realize that property in our area is virtually non-existent. With the rapid growth of our community, large parcels are not available.

The Deal is Done!

With Praise and excitement to God we announce that the official closing of escrow took place this Wednesday at Chicago Title and Trust Co. and that the 14.3 acre parcel of land is now God’s. This process of acquiring additional land for the future expansion of Westbrook Ministries has been a dream from the inception of this church. The completion of the initial land purchase is the first step in this master planned relocation effort. As we celebrate God’s provision in this process we also want to express our gratitude to you, our church family, for your vision, financial support and prayers. We humbly ask for your continued faithfulness in these prayers and gifts as we continue to reach people with the Love of Christ. Thank you God and Westbrook!

Thank you for your continual prayers for our Property acquisition process. In last Sundays In The Know Update we asked you to prayer for our scheduled closing on Wednesday, January 10. As we made final preparations to complete the transaction the Title Company informed both parties~ Westbrook and the seller (Mr. Gahlberg) of some additional needed documents. This necessitated a delay on the formal closing. However, our Elders met on Wednesday and prayerfully signed the final loan documents and will be completing the closing as soon as the date is determined. Thank you for your faithful prayers and faithful generous giving to make this next phase of the ministry of Westbrook a reality.

Be certain to take some time on Wednesday, January 10, 2007 to offer a word of Praise and Prayer to our Lord. This is the day we are to close escrow on our new Veterans Parkway property. Over the last year and a half we have diligently communicated this entire process and in a matter of days our prayers will be answered. We are thrilled that God has led the process and has directed every step we have taken. The Elders and Pastors of Westbrook would like to thank each and every member of our family who has shared in the amazing journey. Even though our early days have been blessed here at Westbrook we believe that our best days of ministry are AHEAD of us. Phase III Update

The capital campaign is in the history books and the giving season of this effort has begun, but this is not the end~ The growth of Westbrook’s ministry continues. While we continue to reach out, our efforts to secure this piece of land is in it’s final stages. Initially the closing of escrow was scheduled to be in late December 06, however that date has been pushed back a few days to January 10, 2007. This adjustment has been made to allow for the Christmas holiday. However, it is a great thing for Westbrook as it allows us to accumulate additional funds which can be used to reduce the amount of loan that will be secured for this purchase. We encourage everyone who is playing a part in the Now is the Time campaign to be faithful in your giving over the next many weeks as every dollar that is given will be used accordingly. We’ll keep you posted on this process as you continue to join us in prayer for wisdom and direction.

As has already been announced, things are progressing forward with the contract portion of our upcoming land purchase. Over the next many months all of the due diligence will be completed along with the gathering of surveys, document’s and details. As information becomes available regarding this phase we will pass it along to you. In addition, be watching for our upcoming fall Capital Stewardship Campaign. It’s right around the corner and you most certainly need to plan to be involved. What will be required? How will it work? What does this mean exactly? Don’t worry, we’re going to answer all of your questions and you’ll find this process to be a tremendous Faith journey for you. These are exciting days!

The Contract Has Been Signed! With all praise to God and just an overwhelming bit of excitement, the pastors and elders of Westbrook would like to inform you that the contract on the previously mentioned property has been signed. The parcel is 14.3 acres and is being sold to Westbrook Christian Church for $2,400,000. An initial deposit of $25,000 has been released to the Chicago Title Company to be held in escrow during the due diligence phase of the contract. The anticipated closing on the property will be late December 2006. Please continue praying with us for God’s wisdom, leadership and blessing as this phase continues! Be sure to drive by this parcel as well. It’s south of Lily Cache Ln. on Veteran’s Pkwy… just across the street from the Tellab’s facility.

The Elders, Pastors and Staff of Westbrook Church urge you to join us in prayer as the land acquisition phase continues. Over the last several days we have received the complete and final revised version of the land purchase contract and once signed a lengthy process of due diligence will begin. Have you visited the site? Are you familiar with the piece of land we are referring to? Plan to drive by. The 14.3 acre site is south of Lily Cache Ln. on Veterans Parkway just a mile or two south of our current facility. Simply drive south on Veterans Parkway and you will notice a street sign for Territorial Drive. The property is across the street on the west side of the road. The site has been excavated, groomed, layered with top soil and seeded awaiting our future facility. Check it out and be sure to take a moment to pray for God’s leadership over this plan and your involvement in making this dream become a reality.
