5th and 6th Grade Ministry

Ave 56Matthew 5:6 “You’re blessed when you’ve worked up a good appetite for God. He’s food and drink in the best meal you’ll ever eat” (The Message)

Fifth and Sixth Graders are known as tweeners. The reason they are called “tweeners” is because they are in between elementary age students and jr. high age students. Not only are they “tweeners” in their age and grade, but also in maturity and spirituality. They are children yet they are looking to break out and be more than just children. Because of this they always feel in between.  They think that they are too old to do the things that are done in Kingdom Ave. The sixth graders have trouble fitting in Generation48. They are at times too young and feel inadequate to participate in the activities. Because of this there is a major need for a 5th and 6th grade ministry here at Westbrook.

The Goal:
The goal in Westbrook’s ministry to 5th and 6th graders is to simply give them a place to be ministered to…a place they feel that they belong. It’s designed to bridge the gap between Kingdom Ave and Generation48. We want our students to be ready to step into G48 with a smooth transition.

The Vision:
1 John 3:1 says… “How great is the love the Father has lavished on us that we should be called children of God. And that is what we are”. As this age group is developing spiritually, the question that seems to engage them is “Who am I?” We want them to know that they belong to God and are His children and because of that, their lives have purpose…to live everyday, in every moment, for every purpose in Him!

When:

  • Sunday Morning 10 AM
We meet in a large group setting Sunday mornings during the 10:00 AM service in rooms K2, 3 & 4. This will be a time of teaching, worship, games and other activities focused on growth and learning.
  • Sunday Night 5:30 PM
We meet in small groups Sunday night from 5:30 -7:00 PM. This will be a time of connecting with leaders and peers. Students will be challenged to learn and grow deeper in their faith (or to explore the claims of Christianity). There are monthly group events on Saturday nights in place of the small group time. These events are designed to allow Avenue56′ers an opportunity to invite their friends.
